Vision
Northeast got started as a safe place for people to connect with God. So many people have been burned by ‘the church’ in the past, and those kind of experiences have caused many people to give up on ever connecting with churches.
So, at Northeast, we try to be a place that breaks those misconceptions and re-envisions people for what ‘the church’ is supposed to be.
We have expressed the mission of Northeast this way:
“The Lost Found * The Forgotten Served * The Faithful Refined.”
First, “The Lost Found” is the core of what Northeast is all about: helping people find their way to God. Everything else we do flows out of finding the lost. People can be lost because they are far away from God’s ways, or they can be lost because they think they are such good people that they are better than others. Like they don’t need God. Either way, you’re lost. But the biblical truth is that we all need God — and Jesus’ stated mission was “to seek and save that which was lost.” So, that is what we focus our attention on.
So, our Sunday gatherings are designed for believers to be inspired and challenged, and for those who are new to the Christian journey to be able to find a safe place to grow and learn, too. Our focus is to never be a church that rests on its laurels. We never want to be complacent. We are totally committed to giving our lives to help others find theirs.
A second facet of our mission is “The Forgotten Served.” Serving the forgotten is a central part of being a part of the kingdom of God. Jesus often told people that when they were serving others that the kingdom of God was near. In Matthew 25, Jesus said that when we served and cared for people we were not only helping, visiting, caring for them, but we were actually serving, caring, and helping Jesus in a real way. So, we are continually working toward helping the Northeast church to be a servant-hearted group of people who serve others as if they were serving Jesus.
A third facet of our mission is “The Faithful Refined.” This is something that goes far beyond just knowing the Bible. We are not interested in people simply knowing what the Bible says — we want to be a community of people who live out the teachings of scripture so we can see our church and community transformed in heart and soul. So, our teaching and discussions are centered around helping each of us apply the teachings of Jesus in such a way that it goes beyond just ‘doing’ and goes, rather, to ‘being.’
